Reasons for Seeking Therapy

I specialize in working with children and families, and further specialize in working with young children and in parenting work.  I serve children of all ages, including adolescents.  My therapeutic services help with a wide range of challenges, including, but not limited to:

  • School-Based Difficulties

  • Disruptive and Aggressive Behavior

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Socialization Challenges

  • Adjustment to Parental Separation/Divorce

  • Toileting Issues

  • Parent-Child Relationship Issues

  • Developing Positive Peer Relationships

There are also times when adults' difficulties are interfering with their ability to parent in the way they would like, and individual psychotherapy is beneficial.  See the Adults page to learn more about individual psychotherapy for parents.

Consultation

Parents are often unsure whether their child needs therapy, and can benefit from professional guidance in figuring out what's in their child's best interests. I can help you determine the next best steps for your child, whether it's an evaluation, therapy, and/or additional school-based support. We can start by having a brief initial call, free of charge. Contact me to schedule.

Key Aspects of My Approach

  • It is of the utmost importance to me to create an emotionally safe and comfortable space for my clients so that our work together can be as effective as possible.

  • Children's relationships with their primary caregiver(s) are central to their development and my approach to working with children calls for significant parental involvement in order to maximize treatment success.  The type and extent of parental involvement will depend upon the age of the child and each family's unique needs.

  • I believe it is important to consider all aspects of children's development in order to successfully understand them and address their challenges. Therefore, my work with children often involves collaboration with other individuals working with them, such as teachers and other treatment providers.  My experience working in schools and with the NYC Department of Education also helps me to support families in pursuing supportive services and school-based support their child might need.

  • The specific components of treatment are tailored to the unique needs of each child and family and may include:

    • Play Therapy (for younger children)

    • Talk Therapy (for older children and adolescents)

    • Parent-Child Sessions

    • Parent Support- including equipping parents with tools to develop positive relationships with their children, and promote their positive behavior and healthy development.

  • I focus on building upon children's and families' strengths in order to address their areas of difficulty.
